PRESSING DEPARTMENT

This department will be responsible for most of the production of tableware and some types of jewelry through the stamping or pressing process. This process has advantages over other processes, such as casting process, forging process, machining include:

  1. Can make a piece of work with complex shapes that are difficult to produce in other processes.

  2. No need to decorate the workpiece after stamping.

  3. The size of every piece is equal and can be adjusted in the assembly process.

  4. The workpiece is strong and lightweight.

  5. High productivity

This process can produce work faster than other production methods, resulting in substantial productivity, but sometimes depending on product requirements as well. In addition, this process also requires people with high work experience because the equipment used in the processing is large and also has a CNC(Computer Numerical Control) which is an automatic production system, it might be dangerous if not careful. Experts must wear safety equipment every time before starting work.

WORKING PROCESS

  1. After each employee receives a sub job card from the production control department, the document will be checked for accuracy again before withdrawing the raw materials (semi product)and tools used in the pressing process from the supply and tools stock(silver sheet and production tools).

  2. Cut the silver sheet according to the specified size in the sub job card.

  3. Annealing Process: Bring the workpieces to the annealing machines so that make the workpieces are soft, easy to forming, which the temperature used in the baking depends on the workpiece metal but most of the heat is at the temperature of 700 degrees Celsius and it takes 25-30 minutes for annealing.

  4. Marking Process: The technician will bring the baked piece into the Marking Process by determining the workpieces position before pressing by setting up the CNC of the machine system, and also cleaning. Then will enter the actual pressing process.

  5. Pressing Process: Before applying mold to press, the technician will clean the workpiece to be ready for the forming of the pressing, as well as setting the CNC operating system of the machine to match the method in the sub job card, then the technician will bring the workpiece to pump in the shape specified in the sub job card.

  6. Cutting excess parts from the workpieces: Once the stamping process has finished, the workpieces will have excess metal attached to the edge.

  7. Stamping Process: After finishing the pressing process, all pieces of work must be pumped the company's logo (Georg Jensen) as well as checking the quality to meet the criteria specified in the Sub job card, and checking the weight. After that, all the work pieces will be stored in the warehouse department to wait for export to the customers and the raw material scrap will be returned to the suppliers

PROGRAM AND SYSTEM USED IN OPERATIONS

Computer Numerical Control or CNC is the automated control of machining tools (drills, boring tools, lathes) by means of a computer. An NC machine alters a blank piece of material (metal, plastic, wood, ceramic, or composite) to meet precise specifications by following programmed instructions and without a manual operator.

CNC systems can be used for a variety of tasks:

  1. Furniture work

  2. Shoes industry

  3. Automotive industry

  4. Architect work or modem design

  5. Jewelery production

  6. Castings, Buddha images or various sculptures

  7. Decoration or engraving

  8. Production of machine parts

  9. Car decoration or various types of cars

Advantages of using CNC machines:

  1. There is a resolution in the work, making various tasks come out standard.

  2. The work is of equal quality and every piece, because it is a work order by a computer program in the machine, causing the job to be done with very little or no mistake.

  3. Can produce work quickly and use less work space and save space in collecting workpieces.

  4. Works well even if the pieces are difficult and highly complex.

  5. Reduce the time to check the quality of the workpiece and reduce the labor in production.

Disadvantages of using CNC systems:

  1. The machine has a very high price and needs to be imported from abroad because in Thailand it is not possible to produce this type of machine and the maintenance cost of the machine is also very high.

  2. If the machine has a problem, it must be repaired, which has a very high repair price, because it requires the knowledgeable person and expertise in modifying the program.

  3. Must use the machine on a regular basis, if left at some time without work, may cause the device to deteriorate.

  4. Need to have space and facilities for NC programmers.

  5. Not suitable for a small amount of work due to high costs.

  6. The control of the machine is in English, which requires a well-trained and knowledgeable programmer, otherwise the device cannot be opened at all.
